Sanju Samson’s return to India’s T20I side lasted just eight balls as he managed 10 runs against Afghanistan at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Opening alongside Abhishek Sharma, Samson began with his usual attacking intent, finding the boundary twice in his brief stay. However, he could not build on the positive start and was dismissed by Afghanistan all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai inside the powerplay, leaving India at 18/1 in the chase of 157.
The knock came after Samson was left out of India’s T20I squad that went to Zimbabwe, before being recalled to the squad for the Afghanistan assignment. The young batting prodigy, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, made way for the experienced wicketkeeper-batter.
Samson’s latest dismissal also extends a difficult period with the bat. During the England T20I series earlier this year, the T20 World Cup Player of the Tournament was left out of the playing XI for three matches after scores of 5, 0 and 1 in Ireland and England.
