India and Japan will celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations with a special T20 International between their men’s cricket teams. The match, which is called the Suzuki Cup, will be played at the Sano International Cricket Ground in Tochigi Prefecture on September 22, 2026.
The game will also launch “Sport 75”, which is an initiative focused on promoting human exchange and cooperation between the two countries through sport. It follows an agreement between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said the game will help the sport reach a wider audience in Japan and East Asia.
“The BCCI is delighted to be part of this historic occasion as the Indian and Japanese men’s teams come together for a special T20 International in Japan,” Saikia said in an official press release. “This is a significant moment for cricket, as it takes the Indian team to new territory and provides an opportunity to introduce the sport to a wider audience in Japan and East Asia..”
Saikia also said the BCCI will work with the JCA to support the growth of cricket in Japan.
JCA CEO Naoki Miyaji described India’s visit as a landmark moment for Japanese cricket. “To be able to invite the reigning World Champions to the home of cricket in Japan is a landmark moment for our association,” he said.
