Alireza Firouzja Wins 2026 Quantbox Chennai Grand Masters

Alireza Firouzja

Grand Master Alireza Firouzja emerged as the champion of the 2026 Quantbox Chennai Grand Masters after drawing his final-round game against GM Arjun Erigaisi. The result was enough to secure the title, with Firouzja finishing atop the standings.

GM Nodirbek Abdusattorov still had a chance to force a playoff considering he won his last game. However, he pushed too hard from a balanced position and ended up conceding the game to GM Dmitry Andreikin. The victory helped Andreikin finish second on tiebreaks.

World Champion, D Gukesh, drew with GM Hans Niemann after sacrificing a bishop to force a quick repetition. The game ended in a draw. The other final-round game between GM Nihal Sarin and GM Pranesh M also ended in a draw with both players finishing the tournament at 3.5 points.

Andreikin’s win over Abdusattorov was his only victory in the tournament but it proved crucial as it lifted him to second place on tiebreaks.
