Pratika Rawal ruled out of Lord’s Test, Priya Punia comes in as replacement

Setback for Team India ahead of their first-ever Women’s Test at Lord’s as star batter Pratika Rawal has been ruled out.

Priya Punia has been named as her replacement and was seen having a batting session with the rest of the squad.

Two days before the historic Test, Indian women’s team head coach Amol Muzumdar confirmed at the press conference that Pratika Rawal has been ruled out due to an injury sustained during the recent India A series against England A in England.

Pratika was in action for India A just a week ago and played both the first and second one-day matches. She scored 46 in the first game, while in the second she bowled, returning figures of 0/22. However, she did not bat in that match after retiring hurt.

On July 7, she was seen having a light knock at the nets, with Muzumdar working closely with her before she faced a few underarm throwdowns from the throwdown specialists.

Now, Priya Punia has earned a call-up in her place. She was also part of the India A series and impressed with back-to-back fifties. Priya finished the series as India A’s highest run-scorer with 171 runs in three innings at an average of 57, helping the side clinch the series 2-1.

It is a big opportunity for the 29-year-old, who returns to the senior set-up after playing her last international match in 2024. She is yet to make her Test debut, and all eyes will now be on whether she earns a place in the playing XI.
