After scripting history, Jos Buttler was asked on Sky Sports about becoming the highest run-scorer in T20 cricket. The England star admitted he was proud of the achievement but also reflected on how dramatically his fortunes have changed over the past few months after struggling for runs earlier in the year.

Jos Buttler revealed that he never considered giving up despite the lean patch and instead focused on rediscovering his rhythm through hard work and determination.

"Funny how quickly cricket can change. One day you're the dog, one day you're the lamp post. A few months ago I was struggling for form. And then, in the last few weeks especially, I probably feel like I'm batting as well as I ever have. It's been a lot of fun."

The 35-year-old added that battling through poor form is part of a professional cricketer's journey and insisted his only focus was to keep improving rather than dwell on setbacks.

"You've only ever got two options. You either give up or you got the energy to keep going and try to rediscover your form. So that's all the things I've been focussing on. I've had energy and determination to try to get back there, and that's what I've done."

When the conversation turned to his record-breaking milestone, Jos Buttler smiled and admitted someone would eventually overtake him. He then surprised everyone by naming India's teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi as his prediction to become the next all-time highest T20 run-getter.

"Yeah it's really cool actually to think you've got the most T20 runs out of everyone. Someone will surpass it one day and his name's probably Sooryavanshi. But no, it's a proud moment."

Jos Buttler also reflected on the significance of overtaking Kieron Pollard, revealing that he had actually hoped to break the record during Manchester Super Giants' previous match when the West Indies legend was sitting in the opposition dugout. He said joining an elite list of T20 greats made the achievement even more satisfying.

"Actually we played against MI London last game, would've been nice to get past Polly while he was there sat in the dugout. Some great names on there, some special players, so yeah I'm really proud of that."

The England batter then explained the story behind his trademark shoulder shuffle and revealed that technical changes made during the IPL played a huge role in helping him rediscover his best form.

"It happened years ago (the shoulder wiggle). I was working with a coach who had me standing front-on and I felt horrible. So he was like 'just relax, shake yourself out' and that's where it came from."

Speaking further, Buttler said he revisited old footage after the T20 World Cup and realised that his batting setup had drifted away from what had worked for him in the past. He credited the IPL for giving him the environment to rebuild his technique.

"During the IPL I worked really hard on my technique. I do think that after the World Cup I had some space and time from the game and I just watched a few things. I'd say my setup had slipped a little bit. I actually felt like I'm not in a position where I'm picking the ball up well."

"I looked back at some footage, sort of reverse-engineered it as to where do I want to finish when the ball is released and worked back from there. Worked hard on that in the IPL and I've been continuing to do that. That's where the IPL has been fantastic for me."

Jos Buttler concluded by saying that as long as he continues enjoying batting and retains the desire to solve technical issues during lean patches, he will keep pushing himself to perform at the highest level.

"When you're out of form, I actually just miss batting. So you wanna get back to doing that, contributing to your team and experiencing that. So as long as I've got that enjoyment of the craft and the energy to try and work out of bad form or patches when it's not working, I'll keep going. When I don't have the energy - you can't come back when it's not working if you haven't got the mind to try and work it out."

She also spoke on the floods in her home state, Assam, praying that things return to normal and hailed the unity shown by people in the state.

Borgohain secured her maiden Commonwealth Games medal, settling for silver in the women’s 75kg boxing event at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, losing a closely fought final to Australia’s Emma-Sue Greentree on Saturday. At the final bell, both boxers raised their hands in confidence, believing they had done enough to claim the title. However, after a tense wait, the judges awarded the contest to Greentree by a 4-1 split decision, leaving Lovlina to add a Commonwealth Games silver medal to her distinguished international career, which so far includes an Olympic bronze, multiple World Championship medals including a gold, an Asian Games silver and multiple Asian Championships medals, including a gold.

Speaking about her medal win to ANI, she said that considering how little she competed and trained post-Paris 2024 Olympics, she is very happy with a silver medal, though she would have loved a gold.

“I would have felt even better if I had won gold, but I am very happy with silver too because this is my first Commonwealth Games medal. I didn’t win a medal in the last two Commonwealth Games. The Commonwealth medal was the only one missing from my collection, so winning this was even harder for me than the Olympics. I did not play much after Paris and stayed out of training, so this medal is really special for me," she said.

Speaking of the flood situation in Assam, Lovlina said that she could see how bad things looked in Assam while she was away, and now that she has returned home, she intends to meet people. She also prayed that everyone and everything comes back to normal and hailed the unity shown by the people in the state.

“I saw how dire the conditions were in Assam. Seeing one’s own people in such a state makes you truly feel the gravity of the situation. I tried to do whatever I could from my end, and now that I am back, I will try to meet everyone. I just pray that all those affected get out of this crisis quickly and that everything returns to normal; that is all I can pray for. It is really difficult to come out of a flood and start everything afresh. I feel really good about how people in Assam are united and supporting each other," she signed off.

Golaghat & Nagaon experienced severe riverine flooding and localised waterlogging due to rising water levels.

The Central Government approved and released critical financial backing, including Rs 379.35 crore under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) to bolster Assam’s immediate disaster response and rescue operations. Multi-agency rescue teams, including the Indian Army, Air Force, NDRF, and SDRF, have been actively deployed.

The Assam government announced an enhanced Rs 9 lakh total ex-gratia package for the families of the deceased (combining Rs 4 lakh standard compensation–waiving mandatory post-mortems–with an additional Rs 5 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund).

Direct cash assistance of Rs 15,000 has been initiated for severely affected households.

Darwin [Australia], August 6 (ANI): Australia pace spearhead Mitchell Starc is set to chase two significant milestones in Test cricket when the hosts begin their two-match series against Bangladesh in Darwin on August 13, with the veteran left-armer closing in on the wicket tallies of Kapil Dev and Dale Steyn.

Starc enters the series with 433 Test wickets, just one shy of Kapil Dev’s haul of 434. Two wickets in the series opener at Marrara Stadium would see the 36-year-old move past the former India captain and break into the top 10 on the all-time list of Test wicket-takers, according to cricket.com.au.

The Australian quick could also climb the rankings among pace bowlers. Seven wickets across the two Tests would take him to 440 career wickets, moving him beyond South African legend Dale Steyn’s 439 and into fifth place among the highest wicket-taking fast bowlers in Test history.
