‘Scared to work’: Ex-Pakistan cricketer opens up on Mohsin Naqvi-led PCB

The Pakistan Cricket Board is under scrutiny for its mid-tour changes to coaching staff and players. Mushtaq Ahmed, a former spinner, expressed concerns regarding the continuous instability affecting potential coaches. He highlighted that abrupt dismissals and emotional decisions deter talented individuals from taking up coaching roles. For Mushtaq, ensuring stability is key to encouraging former players to contribute to the sport.

Special arrangements made for Mirabai Chanu’s AG26 preparations: Reveals CDM Sahdev Yadav

Recent media reports have highlighted how the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) have made arrangements for the athletes. At SAI Patiala, temporary accommodation arrangements have been made similar to what will be available in Japan, so that the athletes can adjust to the conditions and not face any surprises when they land in Nagoya for the Asian Games.

The Asian Games 2026 are set to start on September 19. India’s Chef de Mission, Sahdev Yadav, who is also the president of the Weightlifting Federation of India, recently revealed in an exclusive chat with RevSportz how the federation and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, have been providing support to the athletes.

“Even I will be staying in such a container, and these makeshift arrangements have helped the athletes to acclimatise,” he said. “But, if still someone needs special arrangements in Japan, IOA can make those arrangements.” chickenroad.qpon

Apart from these, the Weightlifting Federation president revealed how the authorities have been supportive of the athletes’ requirements. He gave the example of Mirabai Chanu’s requirement and how it was met.

“This time in Japan, the weights that’ll be used in weightlifting are made by Osaka Co., which have not been used for several years, and are not readily available in India,” he said. “Mira wanted the Osaka plates so she can practice with those because these plates behave differently than those which are generally used.”

“We have been able to arrange the Osaka plates for Mira’s preparations,” he added.

Speaking of Chanu’s chances in the Asian Games, he said, “She is doing well and even lifted 204 kgs in 48 kgs in the nationals. Here, she’s in the 49kgs category, and will surely break the weightlifting medal deadlock.”

“We are eagerly waiting for that moment,” he concluded.

The last time India won a weightlifting medal at the Asian Games was in Bangkok in 1998. Karnam Malleswari won the silver in the women’s 63kg category.

Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh to join India in ACC Women’s Asia Cup 2026 semi-final

Harshitha Samarawickrama held her nerve as Sri Lanka came back from a difficult position to beat Bangladesh by four wickets and book their place in the semi-finals of the Women’s Asia Cup in Dubai.

Chasing 115, Sri Lanka were in trouble at 44/5 before Harshitha took control of the innings. The left-hander finished unbeaten on 48 and helped her team reach the target with four balls to spare. Her innings started with caution, but she changed gears when Sri Lanka needed quick runs.

Bangladesh had made a steady start after being asked to bat first. Juairiya Ferdous and Dilara Akter put on runs in the opening overs, but Sri Lanka kept taking wickets at regular intervals. Dilara scored 25 before being dismissed by Chamudi Praboda, while Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana Joty fell for four.

Sobhana Mostary was the main contributor with the bat, scoring 34 to take Bangladesh close to the 100-run mark. Praboda then removed Mostary and Shorna Akter to finish with figures of 3/21. Bangladesh ended their innings on 114, with Sri Lanka’s spinners keeping the scoring under control in the final overs.

Sri Lanka’s chase began badly. Bangladesh fast bowler Marufa Akter dismissed Chamari Athapaththu for one and then removed Imesha Dulani for 12. Sanjana Kavindi, Vishmi Gunaratne and Kavisha Dilhari also fell as Sri Lanka slipped further.

Harshitha found support from Nilakshika Silva, who scored 18. The pair steadied the innings, but Nilakshika was dismissed with Sri Lanka needing 33 runs from the final four overs.

That left Harshitha with most of the responsibility. She hit a four and a six off Ritu Moni in the 18th over before taking 11 runs from the 19th, including a six off the final ball. The finish left Sri Lanka needing only a few runs in the last over, and they completed the chase without further trouble.

The victory gave Sri Lanka a perfect group-stage record. The defending champions had earlier defeated Bangladesh, Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates before beating Bangladesh again to secure their semi-final place. Sri Lanka also entered the tournament as the reigning champions after defeating India in the 2024 final.

India had already reached the semi-finals after a one-sided seven-wicket win over Pakistan. Pakistan were bowled out for just 55, with Shree Charani and Prema Rawat taking three wickets each. India chased down the target in 8.4 overs, with Harmanpreet Kaur and Deepti Sharma finishing the game unbeaten.

ACC Women’s Asia Cup 2026: How can Fatima Sana’s Pakistan still qualify for semi-finals, EXPLAINED

Despite getting thrashed by Harmanpreet Kaur’s team India in their previous ACC Women’s Asia Cup 2026 match, Fatima Sana’s Pakistan are still in contention for the semi-finals with their upcoming game against Hong Kong later today being a do-or-die one.

Pakistan currently have two points from two matches. They began their campaign with a 35-run win over Thailand but then suffered a heavy seven-wicket defeat against India. Thailand have also finished with two points after completing all three of their group matches, while Hong Kong are yet to open their account. India have already qualified after winning all three games.

Pakistan’s last group match is against Hong Kong on September 7. A win will take Fatima Sana’s side to four points and confirm their place in the semi-finals. They do not need to worry about the net run rate if they win.

A no-result will also be enough for Pakistan. In that case, they will move to three points, while Hong Kong can collect only one point. Thailand, meanwhile, are already stuck on two points after completing their campaign.

The situation becomes less certain if Pakistan lose to Hong Kong. Such a result would leave Pakistan, Thailand and Hong Kong all on two points. The second semi-finalist from Group A would then be decided by net run rate.

Pakistan do have an advantage on that front. Their current net run rate is -0.569, which is considerably better than Thailand’s -2.050 and Hong Kong’s -3.575. Thailand cannot improve their figure because they have already played all three matches.

This means Pakistan could still qualify even with a defeat, but the margin would become important. A heavy loss to Hong Kong could push their net run rate below that of their rivals and knock them out.

The defeat against India has put Pakistan in this position. India bowled them out for only 55 before completing the chase in 8.4 overs. It was Pakistan’s lowest completed total in women’s T20I cricket and also gave India a seven-wicket win.

Hong Kong have also struggled in the tournament. They lost their opening game to Thailand by six runs before India handed them a 137-run defeat. They now need to beat Pakistan to have any chance of reaching the semi-finals.
