Wolvaardt stars despite Brave’s first defeat

Lizelle Lee fell without scoring inside the first six balls, as Brave slipped to 2-9 inside 16 deliveries.

Wolvaardt steadied the innings from there, working the strike patiently on a tricky surface before falling to Georgia Wareham’s bowling with the score on 116-5. The Brave closed on 121-5 their off 100 balls.

In reply, Fire looked well off the pace before Heather Graham’s unbeaten 35 and a late cameo from debutant Grace Thompson swung the chase back their way.

Niamh Holland then struck the winning boundary off the final delivery to seal a one-wicket win, ending Brave’s five-match winning run.
