Bears-Panthers Sets NFL Week 1 Scoring Record

Published September 13, 2026 · Updated September 13, 2026 · NBC Sports

The Chicago Bears set an NFL record with their 59-37 road victory over the Panthers, becoming the highest-scoring Week 1 game in league history.

The Bears-Panthers matchup combined for 96 points, surpassing the previous Week 1 record of 88 points set by Buccaneers-Saints in 2018. It was also the first NFL game to end with a 59-37 score and the highest-scoring contest for both franchises individually, though not the Bears' highest-scoring game ever (they scored 61 in 1965 and 1980). librea.one
