Schedule for Qatar Cup 2026 announced

Doha: The Qatar Stars League (QSL) has announced the schedule for the Qatar Cup 2026, the rescheduled edition of the tournament that was originally planned for the 2025-26 season.

The tournament will feature the top four teams from the final standings of the 2025-26 Doha Bank Stars League. They are Al Sadd, Al Shamal, Al Rayyan and Al Gharafa. syntagm.co.za

The semi-finals will be played on September 1, 2026. Khalifa International Stadium will host the clash between Al Sadd and Al Gharafa, while Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium at Al Sadd Club will stage the other semi-final between Al Shamal and Al Rayyan.

The final is scheduled for December 11, 2026, at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium.

According to the tournament regulations, any match that ends in a draw after 90 minutes will be decided by a penalty shootout.

Washington, United States: World Cup matches in the 11 US host cities will be "very secure," the country's top official overseeing tournament security said Thursday, though he voiced concern over lone wolf attacks, especially in public areas.

"We feel like we're as safe as we can possibly be. But we can't control, you know, the lone wolf," Markwayne Mullin, head of the Department of Homeland Security, said on "Fox and Friends."

"You have the issue with what we call the soft area, which is before you get into the security ring that we're very concerned about," he said, hours before the start of the tournament that the United States is co-hosting with Canada and Mexico.

Mullin said local and state law enforcement officers will be "flexing" in those areas to ensure crowd safety.

"The games are going to be very secure," he said.

The tournament, which kicks off Thursday in Mexico with a match-up between the hosts and South Africa, will see 78 of its games played in the United States.

For Americans more accustomed to their home-grown version of football, Mullin made a comparison to highlight the interest in the global extravaganza.

"Seventy-eight Super Bowls in 38 days. We will have crowds bigger than the Super Bowl," he said. "We have 250 million people that watch the Super Bowl, we'll have 1.4 billion watch the FIFA games."

كرّمت مدينة نيويورك اثنين من أساطير كرة القدم بتسمية شوارع مؤقتة باسمَي المهاجم الفرنسي تيري هنري والنجم البرازيلي بيليه، وذلك قبيل انطلاق بطولة كأس العالم 2026، وفقًا لما أعلنه مجلس المدينة.

وتنطلق البطولة، التي تستضيفها الولايات المتحدة وكندا والمكسيك، يوم الخميس، على أن تُقام مباراتها النهائية الشهر المقبل في ملعب نيويورك نيو جيرسي الواقع على مشارف المدينة.

وشهد تقاطع شارع 50 غربًا مع الجادة السادسة في وسط مانهاتن تجمّع حشود احتفالية لحضور تدشين طريق تيري هنري على يد المسؤولين، فيما كتبت عضوة مجلس المدينة فيرجينيا مالوني عبر حسابها على إنستغرام: اليوم، كرّمت نيويورك أحد أعظم لاعبي كرة القدم على الإطلاق.

وقال هنري، نجم أرسنال وبرشلونة السابق والبالغ من العمر 48 عامًا، والذي كان ضمن تشكيلة المنتخب الفرنسي الفائز بكأس العالم 1998، في رسالة مسجلة: أتوق للتجول هناك في المرة القادمة التي أزور فيها مركز روكفلر. وقد رسّخ اللاعب حضوره الأمريكي بعد أن أمضى خمسة مواسم مع نيويورك ريد بولز في الدوري الأمريكي حتى عام 2014.

في المقابل، أُطلق اسم بيليه على تقاطع شارع شيا وشارع ميريديان في حي كوينز، تخليدًا لذكرى الأسطورة البرازيلية.

وستبقى تسميات الشوارع سارية حتى الأول من نوفمبر المقبل.
