As Ballon d'Or vote nears, stars campaign for the award
Paris, France: With less than two weeks to go before Ballon d'Or voting closes, many leading candidates are campaigning hard to be awarded football's top individual honour.
This self-promotion is a relatively recent development in a team sport where, until a few years ago, the top individual prize went largely unnoticed until it was time to present it. rocore.sbs
But now, the Ballon d'Or dominates the football conversation during the months when the new European season is still finding its feet.
The trophy will be presented on October 26, while the final sprint began on September 8 when France Football, the award organiser, released the list of 30 candidates to succeed Ousmane Dembele.
The ceremony will be in London, even though only five of the 30 nominees play in the English Premier League.
The award carries no cash prize, but it has become worth increased income and status to players and their teams.
Many stars have related bonuses in their boot contracts while the award also increases their overall marketing value, and that of their club.
The two all-time leading Ballon d'Or winners, Lionel Messi, who has picked up the trophy eight times, and Cristiano Ronaldo, who won five times, both have annual sponsorship income estimated by Forbes at more than 65 million dollars.
Clubs can expect to sell more merchandise if one of their players wins.
Some 100 invited journalists -- one representative from each of the top 100 countries in the FIFA rankings -- will cast votes.
With no clear favourite, the stars and their PR agencies are stepping up their campaigns. Achievements are shamelessly paraded to scrape together votes.
'I deserve it'
"For me, Mbappe and I, we're the two best players in the world," Lamine Yamal, who has won the World Cup and La Liga in 2026, said in an interview on Movistar Plus.
"I honestly think that, as the best in the world, maybe there are two of us, and this year I deserve it because of what I've won," the 19-year-old added.
He was responding to the Frenchman, who days earlier had emphasised the award's individual nature -- after a year in which he won no trophies with either Real Madrid or France, who lost a World Cup semi-final to Spain, but scored 10 World Cup goals to take his tally to an all-time leading 22.
"Being the all-time top scorer in World Cup history, overtaking all the great legends in the history of the sport in the most important tournament there is, is something that really stands out, a global event. Who am I voting for? Myself," said the striker, who was also the top scorer in last season's Liga and Champions League.
His manager, Jose Mourinho, did not hesitate to back up the argument: "We know who has made history this summer, and he's not from PSG or the Spanish national team."
In 2024, Real Madrid boycotted the ceremony after learning just before they were due to travel that none of their seven nominees had won.
This year, Paris Saint-Germain have a record 10 nominees, after retaining the Champions League.
That number, and also the side's reputation for collective team spirit, may count against them.
Their leading candidates are Dembele, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Fabian Ruiz, the only player on the list to have won both the Champions League and the World Cup this year.
'Why not dream?'
"Why not dream?", the unassuming Spanish midfielder told French television.
PSG are refusing to pick one individual while arguing that the winner has to be one of their players.
"Kvara and Doue are incredible players. For me Kvara could win the Ballon d'Or, as could Dembele and others," said coach Luis Enrique.
Dembele told France Football that he would not try to influence the poll.
"May the best player win; in any case, it's not us who are voting," he said. "I never sell myself. It's up to them to decide."
Meanwhile, England captain Harry Kane, who scored 73 goals while leading Bayern Munich to a German domestic double and his country to third in the World Cup, remains quiet.
Bayern are speaking up for their leader, putting together a video in which team-mates said that Kane should win.
"He deserves to win it, 100 per cent, without a doubt," said Colombian Luis Diaz, who is also on the shortlist.

Al Rayyan confident ahead of Al Faisaly test in ACL Two
Doha, Qatar: Al Rayyan coach Vicente Moreno said his side are confident and in good rhythm as they prepare to open their AFC Champions League Two campaign against Jordan’s Al Faisaly at Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium today.
The challenge is a significant one, with Al Faisaly twice winning the competition in 2005 and 2006. The Jordanian club, the country’s most successful with 35 league titles, are making their 11th appearance in the tournament.
“We are eagerly looking forward to playing against Al Faisaly. We know we are facing a good team and that it will be a very difficult match, but we are playing at home and are determined to secure a win,” Moreno said at the pre-match press conference.
Al Rayyan have made a strong start to the Qatar Stars League, collecting 10 points from their four opening matches. Moreno said their domestic form has provided confidence, but stressed that the focus must now shift to the continental challenge.
“Our past results give us confidence, but those matches are over. Our focus is solely on tomorrow’s game,” he said.
Al Rayyan have conceded only two goals in the league and Moreno believes they have also shown promise in attack.
“We have a very good defence and a very good attack as well. We have conceded only two goals in the league, but we always want to improve. We have created plenty of chances in recent matches and need to capitalise on them,” he said.

The Spanish coach also acknowledged the different nature of the continental competition and backed his players to rise to the occasion.
“It is a different competition. We respect the opponent greatly and I have immense confidence in my players. If we want to win tomorrow, we must be at our very best,” Moreno said.
Midfielder Julien De Sart said Al Rayyan have high ambitions for the tournament.
“We expect a tough match. We know we must give our best in every game to stand a chance of winning. It is an honour to play in the AFC Champions League Two and we have great ambition. We will take it one match at a time and aim to go as far as possible,” he said.
Al Rayyan are returning to the competition for the first time since their 2010 debut.
Group C also features Oman’s Al Nahda and Saudi Arabia’s Al Taawoun.
The AFC Champions League Two, formerly the AFC Cup, was revamped under its current name in 2024/25.
The 2026/27 edition features 32 clubs in eight groups, with the top two from each group advancing to the Round of 16.
Questions to Ask a Gym Equipment Supplier in Qatar Before You Sign
The questions to ask a gym equipment supplier in Qatar before you sign a purchase agreement can save you from warranty gaps, hidden fees, and unauthorized grey-market machines that cost far more in the long run. Whether you are a first-time gym owner, a hotel operations manager, or a fitness facility buyer in Doha, the contract you sign today determines how smoothly your equipment performs for the next decade.
Qatar’s fitness market has grown fast, and so has the number of suppliers competing for your business. Not every supplier is an authorized gym equipment dealer Qatar businesses can rely on, and not every quotation reflects the true total cost of ownership. That is exactly why having a solid gym equipment supplier checklist matters before any deposit changes hands.
This guide walks through the questions to ask a gym equipment supplier in Qatar, the red flags gym equipment supplier relationships often reveal too late, and the due diligence steps that protect your investment from day one.
Why These Questions Matter Before You Sign in Doha, Qatar
Commercial gym equipment is a long-term capital investment. A single order for a hotel fitness center or commercial gym in Doha, Qatar can run into tens of thousands of riyals, and the wrong supplier decision affects your members, your maintenance budget, and your reputation for years.
Asking the right questions to ask a gym equipment supplier in Qatar upfront is not about being difficult — it is standard commercial gym supplier due diligence. Buyers who skip this step often discover, after signing, that their “genuine” equipment has no manufacturer backing, that installation was never actually included, or that spare parts take months to arrive from an unauthorized channel.
Gym Equipment Supplier Checklist: Core Questions to Ask
Before finalizing any deal, work through this gym equipment supplier checklist in detail. These are the categories every serious buyer in Qatar should cover.
1. Authorized Dealer and Authenticity Questions
Start here, because everything else depends on it.
- Are you an authorized gym equipment dealer Qatar recognized directly by the manufacturer?
- Can you provide written proof of authorized distributorship for each brand you are quoting?
- Is the equipment sourced directly from the factory, or through a third-party reseller?
- Will the manufacturer honor the warranty if I buy through you?
Unauthorized “grey-market” equipment often looks identical to genuine stock but comes with no factory warranty, mismatched components, or firmware that was never certified for commercial use. This is one of the most important questions to ask a gym equipment supplier in Qatar, and it should never be skipped.
2. Gym Equipment Warranty Questions
Warranty terms vary enormously between suppliers, and vague answers here are a warning sign.
- What is the warranty period on the frame, motor, and electronic parts separately?
- Does the warranty cover commercial gym equipment used at high daily volume, or only light residential use?
- Who handles warranty claims — you directly, or the manufacturer overseas?
- What is the average turnaround time for warranty repairs in Doha?
These gym equipment warranty questions should be answered in writing, not verbally, and included as a clause in the final contract.
3. Gym Equipment Delivery and Installation Terms
Delivery delays and installation shortcuts are two of the most common complaints among first-time buyers.
- What are the exact gym equipment delivery and installation terms, including lead time from order to installation?
- Is installation performed by your own certified technicians or outsourced?
- Who is responsible for damage that occurs during transport or setup?
- Do you provide a free site visit or 3D layout plan before delivery?
A supplier who cannot confirm these details clearly is not ready to be trusted with a large commercial order.
4. Gym Equipment Contract Terms in Qatar
Before you sign anything, review the gym equipment contract terms Qatar buyers are legally protected by.
- What payment schedule is required — deposit, milestone payments, or full payment upfront?
- Are prices fixed in the contract, or subject to change before delivery?
- What happens if equipment arrives damaged or does not match the agreed specification?
- Is there a written cancellation or refund policy?
Contracts that are vague about these points, or that pressure you to sign quickly, deserve extra scrutiny.
Red Flags of a Gym Equipment Supplier in Qatar to Watch For
Recognizing the red flags gym equipment supplier relationships often show early can save you from a costly mistake. Watch for:
- Reluctance to provide written authorized-dealer documentation
- Warranty terms that are described only verbally, never in the contract
- Pricing that seems significantly lower than every other quote for the same brand
- No physical showroom or verifiable project history in Qatar
- Pressure to pay full amount upfront before any written agreement
- Vague or missing answers to your gym equipment delivery and installation terms questions
If two or more of these appear during your conversations, treat it as a serious signal to pause and verify further.
How to Vet a Fitness Equipment Supplier: Due Diligence Steps
Knowing how to vet a fitness equipment supplier goes beyond a single conversation. Proper commercial gym supplier due diligence includes:
- Verify the brand relationship directly — contact the manufacturer to confirm the supplier’s authorized status.
- Ask for references from completed projects, ideally hotels, gyms, or facilities similar to yours in Doha, Qatar.
- Visit the showroom to inspect equipment quality, finishing, and available stock in person.
- Check after-sales infrastructure — does the supplier maintain local spare parts and a service team, or ship parts from abroad each time?
- Review completed installations — an established supplier should be able to show you a portfolio of hotels, gyms, and commercial facilities they have equipped.
A supplier with a genuine, long-standing track record — such as Sports Village Qatar, established in Doha since 2006 — will typically have no hesitation walking you through each of these steps, including sharing project references and brand authorization documents.
Gym Equipment Supplier Comparison Qatar: What to Weigh Side by Side
When running a gym equipment supplier comparison Qatar buyers should evaluate more than price. Compare each supplier across:
- Authorized brand status and warranty coverage
- Delivery timelines and installation quality
- Local after-sales support and spare parts availability
- Completed project portfolio (hotels, gyms, universities, home projects)
- Contract flexibility and payment terms
Buyers who compare suppliers on all five points — not price alone — consistently report fewer warranty disputes and smoother installations. You can review a supplier’s completed work, such as hotel and commercial gym installations, on their projects page before making a final decision.
Before Signing Gym Equipment Contract: Final Checklist
Right before signing gym equipment contract paperwork, confirm these final points in writing:
- Brand authorization documentation attached or referenced
- Full warranty terms for each equipment category
- Delivery date, installation scope, and responsibility for damages
- Payment schedule and cancellation terms
- After-sales support contact and response time commitment
If a supplier cannot confirm all five points clearly, it is reasonable to request revisions before signing.
