أعرب أحمد الشعبي، رئيس الاتحاد القطري لكرة اليد، عن بالغ سعادته وفخره الكبير بالتتويج التاريخي لمنتخبنا الوطني للناشئين بلقب البطولة الآسيوية الحادية عشرة، مؤكداً أن هذا الإنجاز القاري الجديد يعكس بوضوح التطوير المستمر الذي تشهده كرة اليد القطرية وثمار العمل الكبير المتواصل في الأندية والمنتخبات الوطنية.
ورفع رئيس الاتحاد أسمى آيات التهاني والتبريكات إلى مقام حضرة صاحب السمو الشيخ تميم بن حمد آل ثاني أمير البلاد المفدى، وإلى سمو الشيخ عبدالله بن حمد آل ثاني نائب الأمير، وإلى سعادة الشيخ جوعان بن حمد آل ثاني رئيس اللجنة الأولمبية القطرية، وإلى الشعب القطري الوفي وجماهير الرياضة الواعية، مقدماً هذا اللقب إهداءً خاصاً للقيادة الرشيدة وللدعم اللامحدود الذي تحظى به الرياضة القطرية. وأثنى الشعبي على الأداء البطولي والرجولي الذي قدمه لاعبو «عنابي الناشئين» طوال مشوار البطولة والذي توجوه بالعلامة الكاملة ودون أي هزيمة، مشيداً بالجهود الكبيرة للجهازين الفني والإداري ولجنة المنتخبات الوطنية، ومؤشراً إلى أن هذا التتويج يمثل دفعة معنوية كبرى لتحضيرات المنتخب الاستحقاقات المونديالية المقبلة في مقدونيا الشمالية 2027.

أعرب حمد النعيمي، عضو الاتحاد القطري لكرة اليد، عن سعادته الكبيرة بتتويج منتخبنا الوطني للناشئين بلقب كأس آسيا، مؤكداً أن هذا الإنجاز يمثل ثمرة العمل الكبير الذي قامت به أسرة كرة اليد القطرية خلال الفترة الماضية، ويؤكد استمرار مسيرة النجاحات التي تحققها المنتخبات الوطنية على المستوى القاري.

Front three give Chelsea reason to dream

Two Premier League games into Alonso's reign as Chelsea manager, the Blues have seven goals, six points and plenty of reasons for optimism.

The acid test of whether Chelsea are truly back to being title contenders comes when they travel to face champions Arsenal next weekend.

But the arrival of Alonso on the bench and Morgan Rogers to form a potent front three alongside Joao Pedro and Cole Palmer, has transformed a side that finished 10th last season.

That failure could ultimately help Chelsea's chances of a first league title in a decade as they have no European football, while their rivals face the strain of the Champions League.

"Chelsea has so much quality on transition moments they have maybe the best offensive line in the league," said Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler.

Alonso has already shown an adaptability to maximise the weapons at his disposal.

Chelsea had just 26 percent possession against Brighton, the lowest of any league match in Alonso's managerial career.

Yet, they lured the Seagulls on to strike decisively on the counter-attack, epitomised by Pedro's third goal from a move beginning in the Chelsea area.

Spurs 'can't buy mentality'

Roberto De Zerbi surveyed the damage from big-spending Tottenham's dismal start and admitted it is mentality rather than money that will define their season.

De Zerbi has overseen an expensive rebuild of the Tottenham squad that narrowly avoided relegation on the final day of last season, but results have proved harder to buy.

The Italian's spending spree has topped 300 million pounds (406 million dollars) ahead of Tuesday's transfer deadline, only for Tottenham to lose 3-0 at Brentford in their opening game and 2-0 at home to Newcastle on Saturday.

Bottom of the table Tottenham have lost their opening two matches of a league campaign without scoring for the first time since 1974-75.

After successive 17th-placed finishes in the Premier League, De Zerbi know the mounting pressure on his players could be a problem.

"After two defeats, maybe somebody can think it's the same story, the same as the last two seasons. I have no doubt it's not like this," he said.

"It's the biggest target to find the right mentality. Unfortunately, you can't buy the mentality in the transfer market."

Liverpool ignore glaring gaps

Liverpool could feature a forward line with each player costing in excess of 100 million pounds at Ipswich on Friday, with Bradley Barcola set to join Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz in the Reds' star-studded attack.

Isak and Wirtz have so far offered little return on the huge sums paid for them 12 months ago, but each had a hand in a goal each of Liverpool's 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

The Sweden striker tapped home his first goal of the season, while Wirtz's brilliant assist teed up Victor Munoz to rescue a point in the final 10 minutes.

Despite a prolonged search for attacking reinforcements since Mohamed Salah's departure at the end of last season, it is at the other end that Liverpool still look brittle.

Iraola's reign has begun with two chaotic 2-2 draws that exposed a lack of midfield protection for defensive deficiencies.

Both full-backs Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong were replaced after a chastening first hour and Iraola may regret not focusing more on strengthening at the back rather than splashing out on another expensive forward.

Doha, Qatar: Qatar will send 243 athletes to the Asian Games in Japan with the national contingent aiming for strong performances at the continent’s biggest multi-sport event, which will be held from September 19 to October 4.

Officially known as the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games, the 20th edition will be held across Aichi Prefecture and the city of Nagoya, with athletes from 45 countries and regions under the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) set to compete.

The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) yesterday held a press conference to announce details of Qatar’s participation and preparations for the multi-sporting event.

The Qatari contingent, comprising 184 male and 59 female athletes, marks a significant increase from the country’s participation at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, which were delayed due to COVID-19. Qatar had more than 180 athletes at the previous edition, where it won 14 medals, including five gold, six silver and three bronze.

Qatar will once again have several of its leading athletes in the line-up including high jump legend Mutaz Barshim, hurdler Abderrahman Samba and beach volleyball duo Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan returning after all four struck gold in Hangzhou.

The contingent is also strengthened by former Olympic medal-winning shooter Nasser Saleh Al Attiyah – also a rally legend – star weightlifters Fares Ibrahim and Ouisal Ikhlef, and shooting duo Rashid Saleh Al Athba and Reem Al Sharshani, alongside a number of other talented athletes.

Qatar will compete in 26 sports and 32 disciplines, represented by 18 national sports federations. The sports include athletics, football, basketball, 3x3 basketball, handball, volleyball, beach volleyball, squash, padel, taekwondo, judo, artistic gymnastics, golf, shooting, swimming, jiu-jitsu, esports, sailing, equestrian sports, karate, fencing, archery, wrestling, boxing, weightlifting and table tennis.

The Aichi-Nagoya Games will also provide an important competitive platform for Qatari athletes ahead of major future events, particularly the Doha 2030 Asian Games, which Qatar is preparing to host.

Head of Qatar’s Administrative Delegation Ahmed Yousef Al-Darwish said preparations for the Games had been underway since the conclusion of the previous edition in China.

“Preparations have been carried out as required, with a large working group coordinating with the sports federations to ensure the best conditions for our athletes and delegations. Our main goal is to represent Qatar with honour,” he said.“With the Games ending, our focus will shift to Doha, which will host the Asian Games in 2030. Aichi-Nagoya 2026 is therefore an important milestone, both competitively and in preparing for the next edition,” he added.

Al-Darwish said the participation of 59 female athletes was a positive indicator of the growing presence of Qatari women across sport.

Deputy Head of Qatar’s Administrative Delegation Iman Al-Emadi said the mission had completed its preparations for the Games.

“We have coordinated with all participating sports federations and completed the necessary logistical arrangements and equipment. We hope our delegation will represent Qatar in the best possible light,” she said.

“Women’s participation is also important, and I hope our female athletes will play a key role and contribute to winning medals and raising Qatar’s flag high,” she added.

Member of the Administrative Delegation Naji Al-Omari said Aichi-Nagoya 2026 was an important milestone for Qatari sport and an opportunity to reflect its development.

“We have completed the necessary preparations, including hotels, transportation and other logistical arrangements, to ensure the delegation is fully ready. Our aim is to provide athletes with the right conditions to focus on their competitions, perform at their best and achieve the desired results,” he said.

Head of the Media Delegation Abdullah Mohammed Al-Marri also spoke at the press conference, outlining the arrangements.

Meanwhile, the Mirqab platform has been launched as an integrated hub for following Qatar’s participation at Aichi-Nagoya 2026, providing news, updates and key information on the Qatari delegation.

A Qatari guest house has also been established to serve as a permanent venue throughout the Games, showcasing and promoting Qatari culture.
