'I'll be at next World Cup' in 2030: Somali referee barred from US

More than 100 supporters lined up outside the VIP section of Mogadishu's main airport, waving national flags as Artan disembarked from a Turkish Airlines flight to cheers.

"I will be at the next World Cup and will continue to make Somalia proud... Despite what has happened to me, I am not discouraged," Artan told journalists.

Artan's rejection has sparked outrage at home.

"They wronged him in a way that hurts everybody that is concerned about humanity," Mohamed Said, a Mogadishu government official, said at the airport.

Artan, who in 2025 was named men's referee of the year by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), was barred from entering the US on Saturday after arriving at Miami International Airport.

A US State Department official told AFP late Tuesday that the referee was "associated with suspected members of terrorist organizations", therefore "making the traveler ineligible for admission to the United States".

FIFA also confirmed that he would no longer be part of the World Cup set to start on Thursday.

Artan's appointment to the 52-strong roster of referees for the finals in Canada, Mexico and the United States had been a huge source of pride for his compatriots.

Somalia's president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud said in April he was "a symbol of inspiration for the new generation of Somalis".

وعلى مدار تسعين دقيقة حبست الأنفاس، لم تتوقف الجماهير عن التشجيع والمؤازرة رغم تأخر المنتخب بهدف في الشوط الأول، وواصلت الهتافات دعم اللاعبين حتى اللحظات الأخيرة، في مشهد عكس حجم الإيمان والثقة بهذا الجيل الذي حمل راية الكرة القطرية في أصعب المحافل العالمية.

سعود غانم:أبطالنا كانوا رجالاً وعلى قدر المسؤولية

ومن قلب المدرج العنابي، أكد لاعب المنتخب الوطني السابق سعود غانم أن اللاعبين قدموا مباراة تليق بتاريخ الكرة القطرية.
وقال: «المباراة كانت صعبة للغاية ولعبت بأعصاب الجميع، لكن أبطالنا كانوا رجالاً وعلى قدر المسؤولية. لم نكن نطلب من اللاعبين سوى الدفاع عن اسم بطل آسيا بأفضل صورة، وقد نجحوا في ذلك».
وأضاف: «شاهدنا التزاماً تكتيكياً كبيراً وانضباطاً واضحاً».
وتابع: «سواء تأهل المنتخب أم لا، فإن هذه الشخصية القتالية يجب أن تستمر. رؤية الهوية القطرية والمدرج العنابي في أمريكا أمر يدعو للفخر ويؤكد مكانة قطر الرياضية عالمياً».



علي معرفية:الفوز بكأس آسيا مرتين ليس من فراغ

أعرب المشجع القطري علي معرفية عن سعادته الكبيرة بالنتيجة، مؤكداً أن العنابي أثبت أمام أصعب فرق المجموعة أنه بطل آسيا عن جدارة واستحقاق. وقال: «هذه أول نقطة في تاريخ الكرة القطرية بكأس العالم خارج أرضها، والجمهور كان أفضل لاعب في المباراة. المنتخب أثبت أنه لم يفز بكأس آسيا مرتين من فراغ، وقدم مباراة كبيرة أمام منتخب أوروبي قوي». وأضاف: «ركلة الجزاء التي احتسبت ضد منتخبنا ليست صحيحة من وجهة نظري، ومع ذلك لم يستسلم اللاعبون. أهدرنا فرصاً عديدة لكن الرجال كانوا في الموعد، وبوعلام خوخي أثبت قيمته وخبرته. الزي الوطني في المدرجات منح اللاعبين روحاً إضافية».



سالم خجيم العذبة:العنابي قول وفعل

أكد سالم خجيم العذبة أن المنتخب أعاد إلى الأذهان روح المقاتلين الذين عرفهم الشارع الرياضي القطري عبر السنوات.
وقال: «العنابي قول وفعل. هذا الفريق أعادنا إلى ذكريات عام 1998 عندما كان منتخبنا يقاتل حتى اللحظة الأخيرة. ست دقائق وقت بدل ضائع ونسجل في آخر دقيقة منها، هذه هي شخصية الأبطال».
وأضاف: «ما تحقق يمثل رداً قوياً على كل المشككين. بوعلام خوخي وحسن الهيدوس أثبتا أن الخبرة لا تزال قادرة على صناعة الفارق، وأبو ندى كان أفضل لاعب في المباراة عن جدارة».



الدكتور حمود:سنواصل المساندة أمام كندا والبوسنة

أما صانع المحتوى واليوتيوبر الدكتور حمود، فأكد أن المباراة كانت من أكثر المباريات إثارة خلال السنوات الأخيرة.
وقال: «المواجهة حرقت أعصابنا طوال التسعين دقيقة، لكن الحمد لله على هذه النتيجة المهمة. اللاعبون لم يقصروا إطلاقاً وقدموا كل ما لديهم داخل الملعب». وأضاف: «أبو ندى كان مميزاً طوال المباراة واستحق الإشادة، وجميع اللاعبين قاتلوا حتى النهاية. نحن فخورون بهم أينما ذهبوا، وسنواصل دعمهم أمام كندا والبوسنة».

العرب خلف العنابي

ولم تقتصر مشاعر الفرح على الجماهير القطرية، إذ حرص عدد كبير من أبناء الجاليات العربية على الاحتفال مع الجماهير العنابية عقب صافرة النهاية.
وقال مشجع لبناني مقيم في سان فرانسيسكو إن المنتخب القطري قدم نموذجاً مشرفاً للكرة العربية أمام منتخب أوروبي قوي، مؤكداً أن الروح القتالية التي ظهر بها اللاعبون تستحق الاحترام.
فيما قال مشجع يمني: «مبروك لقطر.. حياهم الله، رفعوا رأسنا ورأس كل العرب، وكلنا خلف العنابي في هذه البطولة».
أما أحد أبناء الجالية السودانية فأكد أن الجميع كان يشجع المنتخب القطري وكأنه منتخبهم الوطني، مضيفاً: «نحن فخورون بما قدمه العنابي في هذه المواجهة».

After recovering from the hamstring injury that briefly disrupted his preparations, Yamal is expected to be available for Spain’s opening Group H match against Cape Verde on June 15.

Doha: Dr. Jessica Miranda, Head of Psychology at FIFA, addressed Qatar’s elite referees on managing stress and maintaining focus during matches at the Qatar Football Association’s (QFA) pre-season training camp at the InterContinental Hotel Doha on Wednesday.

Dr. Miranda explained how the body and mind respond to competitive pressure and outlined methods to manage stress, improve concentration, support recovery and enhance decision-making during matches.

She also highlighted the importance of balancing psychological, physiological and physical factors to achieve peak performance and remain focused in high-pressure situations.

Dr. Miranda, who describes Qatar as her second home has previously worked at Aspire Academy for five years, a period she considers a significant professional experience.

Her participation in the Qatari elite referees' camp stems from her extensive experience in international referee training.

She has previously overseen the physiological aspects of referees for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, as well as those for the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, and will also be involved with referees for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Doha: Qatar’s U-18 national basketball team will begin their campaign at the FIBA Asia Championship when they face Iran at 11:00 am Doha time today, at the Veer Savarkar Indoor Hall in Ahmedabad, India.

The match marks the opening fixture of Group C in the continental tournament, which runs from August 13 to 23 with the participation of 16 teams.

In the other Group C clash, China will meet Sri Lanka today, setting the stage from the very first round for the battle over the two quarterfinal qualification spots.

Qatar’s encounter with Iran carries added significance, as both teams enter the competition with different ambitions but share the same goal of securing a strong start to gain early advantage in a group that also includes China and Sri Lanka.

Following the opener against Iran, Qatar will face China on August 16 and conclude their group stage campaign against Sri Lanka on August 18.
